Every year, my friend travel aboard to spent his holiday. And in 2017, he decided to give a visit to a Catholic high school in Melacca, Malaysia where he used to be a volunteer there. Long story short, me and him agreed to take a short trip to Malaysia.
As this is so sudden, and my life was in turmoil at that time, I didn't have any itinerary what to visit there. What matter most is I need to go out from Jakarta and take a break from this chaotic phase of life. Yap, at that time I was at the lowest point in life. Luckily, my friend had lived in Malaysia for over than 3 years and he know quite well about Kuala Lumpur and Melacca.
He's really such a good companion. Patient, very caring, and a good tour guide too. As a first timer in Malaysia, I was quite surprised with how clean and organized KL which is much better than Jakarta, especially in term of public transportation. We went to visit some of his favorites places such as Sun Fong Bak Kut Teh, and Kim Lian Kee resto in Petaling Street. Also, I happened to visit Batu Cave too.

On second day, we departed to Mellaca by bus. It was like travelling back to different era. The highlights about Mellaca including the hotel where we stayed which is thoughtful in concept and a warm welcome from the Monfort Youth Center High School teachers and headmaster. Seeing from the way the people at the school welcome my friend, I know that he's really a genuine person. From the gardener to the headmaster, everybody look very excited seeing him again. Another pleasant memory is the night cruise. Along the river, we were explained about the history of Mellaca.

Overall, it was an exciting trip and I was genuinely happy. As Dave Matthews Band say, “Turns out, not where, but who you're with that really matters.”
